NISS has been launched in Tamilnadu. Dr. K Raja, renowned ENT Surgeon of Chennai is the Chairman.
NISS Chapter of Kottarakkara

Launch of Rotary Initiative for Safe Sound (RISS)
Rotary International (Dist. 3211) with the support of NISS has launched the Rotary Initiative for Safe Sound (RISS). This initiative has been launched by Rotary Governor, Rtn. C. Luke. Dr. John Panicker, President – NISS, is the chairman of RISS. Rtn. Ravindra Kumar, former Executive Director of CDAC, Rtn. C Suresh (Past Asst. Governor) are the Co-Chairs of the project. Revenue district-wise seminars and a huge campaign by all the 300 Rotary Clubs of Dist. 3211 are planned.
Study on health effects of noise
A study of health effects of noise among our population is being undertaken by NISS. It is a joint project of IMA-NISS, National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) as well as ENT and Preventive Medicine Department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. It will initially cover the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The Science and technology department of Govt. of Kerala is expected to support this very important study, being the first of its kind in India.
Ms. Praveena Davis of NISH will be the Chief Investigator and Dr. P R Shyla (HOD, ENT Dept, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram), Dr. Althaf Ali (Addl. Prof. of Preventive Medicine Dept, Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram) and Dr. Mohammed Shafi (Asst. Prof. of Global Institute of Public Health) are the Joint Investigators.
Harsh Vardhan: Kerala’s achievements in health sector model for country
In Karala, Harsh Vardhan was full of praise for its commitments to the health sector. The Union Health Minister, while maintaining that the achievements of Kerala in the health sector is a model for the country, said the state has been “maintaining quality right from the primary health sector to the medical college sector”.

Health Ministry to take up anti-noise pollution initiatives. Expert group of ENT specialists to be formed soon to recommend measures
Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister, has stressed the need for enforcing statutory standards prescribed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and directives issues by the Supreme Court to prevent noise pollution. Globally, noise has emerged as the single biggest cause of disability in the workplace.
